3) Startup of
NetSkate Visualizer
4) The error
messages ‘user.home read can't save initial
settings’,‘querePrintJob can't print’,‘can't use
cut/copy/paste’ are displayed. Is this a java
related problem?
Since NetSkate Visualizer has been
developed using Java's applet technology, the
application prevents unauthorized updates to the
system. To validate the above mentioned function,
use policy tool (distributed by Sun Microsystems,
included in J2SE). Refer to the manual for use and
settings.
5) Network map
generation isn't going well
To generate detailed network
maps we recommend setting SNMP for network
equipment (it is more effective if the router is
set to SNMP during setup).
6) What is a
community?
It is something like a password. Most of the
network equipments connected to the network
support SNMP (a type of network management
protocol), which provides information, such as
network traffic. This allows any user to access
this type of information. To limit the people who
can access this, communities are set for network
equipment.
8) Installing
Java on Windows
Since it won't run on Windows' standard
Java VM, please download Sun Java2 (J2SE) from the
URL:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html
After downloading, run installer to install Sun
Java2.
(Both JRE and SDK can be downloaded, but we
recommend SDK)
Procedure:
1) Open
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html in your Web browser.
2) Click on the SDK link of Windows in
‘Download J2SE v 1.4.2_03’.
3) The terms of the
license will be displayed. Select ‘Accept’ and
click on `Continue’.
4) Click on
the Windows installer file and download.
(‘Windows Offline
Installation, Multi-language’)
5) Start up the
installer and follow its instructions to install.
9) How to delete
NetSkate Visualizer
Sometimes even after uninstalling,
part of the program will remain undeleted.
By default, NetSkate
would have been installed in the folder
C:\NetSkate. Once you delete this folder un
installation will be complete.
10) An error is
displayed and start up is not possible
An error message
‘Data still present (Win32 Error:234 file
"Win32Util.cpp"line:1425)’ may be displayed and
Netskate Visualizer may not start.
How to avoid: create a
new user account and install NetSkate
Visualizer
11) Functions are
limited after a display instruction to use Policy
Tool for settings
In the default path of Java
installation, the following messages may be
displayed when Visualizer applet is
started.
You don't have the following authority?
user.home read
Initial settings cannot be saved
You don't have the
following authority ? queuePrintJob
Print function cannot be
used.
You don't have the following authority ? ShutDown
Hooks
This is because NetSkate Visualizer is produced
from Java's applet technology. This technology
prevents unauthorized rewriting of the program by
the system.
To activate the above, use policytool (included
in J2SE) distributed by Sun Microsystems.
